Countries With The Most Billionaires 2022

Forbes’ 35th annual list of the world’s billionaires includes 2,755 persons. Unsurprisingly, the United States and China hold the lion’s share of the world’s wealthiest people. According to Forbes’ 2021 Billionaires List, the number of billionaires in practically every country on the planet increased this year.

Greater China had the most billionaires in the world in 2021, according to the Hurun Global Rich List 2021. With a billionaire population of 1,058 persons, Greater China topped the list. In comparison, the United States had 696 billionaires.

The Asia-Pacific region continues to lead with 1,149 billionaires, up 370 from the previous year, mainly owing to newcomers from China and India. It means that the list of countries with the most millionaires will be full of surprises and upheavals.

With 724 billionaires, the USA leads the list, followed by China with 698. Over half of the world’s billionaires are from these two countries. Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, is the world’s richest person, with a net worth of $177 billion. 

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is the next richest person on the list, with a net worth of $151 billion. The cumulative net worth of the world’s billionaires has risen to $13.1 trillion, up from $8 trillion in 2020.

According to Forbes’ rating, India broke into the Top 3 after adding 19 new billionaires this year. Meanwhile, Italy made it into the top ten. There are 2,755 people on Forbes’ list of billionaires for 2021. In addition, there are 2,444 billionaires in the following cities.

In 2021, almost every country added additional billionaires, and the Top 20 saw some notable changes. The following are the 20 countries and territories where most of the world’s wealthiest people reside.

New York

1. United States

The United States has 724 billionaires, led by Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Musk has a net worth of 202.6 billion dollars. California had the most billionaires in the United States as of March 2021, with 189 billionaires calling the state home. New York came in second with 126 billionaires, a significant increase above Florida’s 70. 

Elon Musk is also an early-stage investor, CEO, and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc., and the establisher of The Boring Company. Instead, Musk chose to found a firm that could produce low-cost rockets. Musk founded Space Exploration Technologies Corp, also known as SpaceX, in May 2002 with $100 million of his yearly earnings.

He is still the company’s CEO and serves as Chief Engineer as of 2021. Elon Musk is the co-founder of PayPal and SpaceX, which develops spacecraft. He is also the co-establisher of Neuralink and OpenAI. 

Here are the other four billionaire Americans. With a net worth of $201 billion, Amazon.com, Inc. founder Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest person in the world. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, Inc, came in third with a net worth of $134.5 billion. Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, came in fourth place, with a net worth of $134 billion. Finally, Larry Page, the co-founder of Google LLC, is ranked fifth on the list, with a net worth of $123 billion.

2. China

Zhong Shanshan, the chairman of bottled water company Nongfu Spring, is one of China’s 696 billionaires. He has a net worth of $65 billion. Individuals with a personal wealth of above 10 million yuan are classified as millionaires, while those with 100 million yuan or more are classified as super-rich.

One yuan is equivalent to 0.15 USD and 0.13 EUR. The freshly minted billionaire Zhong Shanshan of bottled water and beverage business Nongfu Spring, who took his company public in 2020, is at the top of the list.

However, Zhong isn’t the only billionaire to have surpassed last year’s most affluent Chinese, Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, in the past year. In addition, Tencent Holdings Ltd., one of China’s largest enterprises, has donated $15 billion to various projects ranging from the environment to education and rural development to technical help for senior persons.

Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma used to teach English, but after amassing his internet industry fortune, he became a regular on the billionaire Davos circuit. However, China’s regulators rejected Ant Group’s stock market listing in November; a financial firm spun out from Alibaba’s retail and technology parent. Following the strike, Ma vanished for a brief moment.

3. India 

India has 237 billionaires, putting it third in the world after the United States and China. Mukesh Ambani has been India’s richest man for the past 13 years. According to Forbes, he is the world’s 12th richest person. Reliance Industries Limited’s chairman is Mukesh Ambani.

He is one of India’s 237 billionaires and a conglomerate with telecommunications, retail, and oil and gas holdings. He has a net worth of $97.7 billion.

Much of Mukesh’s wealth comes from his father, Dhirubhai Ambani’s petrochemicals and oil and gas enterprises. Still, Mukesh is shifting his focus to more consumer-facing businesses like telecom and retail. Reliance Jio is one of India’s major telecom networks today, having raised more than $20 billion in recent months, with retail financing to follow.

4. Germany

Germany is ranked fourth. Beate Heister and Karl Albrecht Jr., heirs to the Aldi empire, are two of Germany’s 136 billionaires. They are valued at 43.4 billion dollars. Beate Heister and Karl Albrecht Jr., heirs to the $34.3 billion Aldi supermarket fortune, are the wealthiest persons in Germany.

The CEO of grocery chain Lidl and part-owners of manufacturer BMW are among the others on the list. The net worth of the top 11 Germans totals $197 billion.

5. Russia

The family of Alexey Mordashov, the former CEO of the steel and mining corporation Severstal, is one of Russia’s 117 billionaires. Mordashov and his family have a combined net worth of $31 billion.

Alexey Mordashov is the chief executive of the Russian steel and mining corporation Severstal. Vladimir Potanin, the president of Interros, a private investment firm, and Nornickel, a mining and metallurgical firm, came in second. Mordashov and his family were placed 44th in the global ranking of billionaires led by Jeff Bezos.

6. Hongkong

LiKa-Shing is the richest man in Hong Kong, with 71 billionaires. He was previously the chairman of CK Asset Holdings, a real estate company, and CK Hutchison Holdings, a retail, infrastructure, and port services company. He has a net worth of 31.4 billion dollars. Due to increased exports and domestic consumption, Hong Kong’s economy grew 6.4 percent in 2021.

According to Forbes, Robin Zeng Yun, the founder of Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), has surpassed Li Ka-Shing as Hong Kong’s wealthiest person. Zeng’s real-time net worth, which was US$34.5 billion on Wednesday, was US$0.2 billion higher than Li’s. Lika-Shing has a net worth of $33.7 billion.

7. Brazil

Jorge Paulo Lemann and his family are among Brazil’s 65 billionaires. They’re valued at $14.9 billion. Jorge Paulo Lemann is the wealthiest person in Brazil. Lemann is a co-founder of 3G Capital, a Brazilian investment business that owns Burger King, Anheuser-Busch, and Heinz.

In September 2010, 3G made a $4 billion bid for all of Burger King’s equity, at a 45 percent premium to the market. Also, Joseph Safra was a Lebanese Brazilian banker and millionaire businessman who founded the Safra Group, a Brazilian banking and investment conglomerate domiciled in Switzerland. Safra is the 52nd richest person in the world and the richest in Brazil, with a net worth of US$22.8 billion.

8. Canada

David Thomson, the media magnate, and his family are among Canada’s 64 billionaires. Thomson and his family have a combined net worth of $50.9 billion, making them the wealthiest people in Canada. According to a recent global report, Canada added seven billionaires in 2020, bringing its total to 53, tied for 12th highest in the world, up from 14th the previous year.

The collective fortune of Canadian billionaires now exceeds US$100 billion, up 4.5 percent of the prior year. Joseph Tsai, co-founder and vice-chairman of the Chinese e-commerce behemoth Alibaba Group Holding Ltd is also among the wealthiest persons in Canada. According to the financial journal, he is of Taiwanese origin and a Canadian citizen, and his fortune increased by $500 million in 2020.

9. United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has 56 billionaires, headlined by James Ratcliffe; a chemical engineer turned investor worth $14.8 billion.

Sir James Ratcliffe is the wealthiest man in the United Kingdom while being only the 113th richest man globally. He made US$6 billion in the last year as the founder, chairman, and controlling owner of the chemical behemoth Ineos Group, giving him a total fortune of US$17 billion.

Once again, James Ratcliffe became the richest man in the United Kingdom. He is believed to be $6 billion richer than the previous year, thanks to a comeback in the chemicals sector, which has boosted the value of his Ineos.

10. Italy 

Giovanni Ferrero, executive chairman of his family’s namesake chocolate business, is Italy’s 51 billionaire. Ferrero has a market capitalization of $34.1 billion.

Giovanni Ferrero is the executive chairman of his family’s Ferrero Rocher confectionery company, which had about $15 billion in 2020. Nutella chocolate-hazelnut spread, Kinder chocolates, and Tic Tac mints are the company’s most well-known products.

Giovanni Ferrero’s net worth is expected to be at $28 billion in 2022.

Giovanni served as co-CEO with his brother, Pietro, until his death in 2011 after a heart attack. He stood down as CEO in 2017 but remained as executive chairman to concentrate on company strategy. In January 2018, he paid $2.8 billion purchasing Nestle’s entire confections business in the United States. Giovanni Ferrero is a successful Italian businessman.

After his brother Pietro Ferrero died in 2011, Ferrero took over the candy company Ferrero SpA.

The wealthiest billionaires want to work with professionals to establish charitable organizations or foundations that allocate their funds to worthwhile causes. Some organizations accept grant applications, while others prefer to seek out-groups.
